Koenigsegg Agera R, The Fastest From Need for Speed

Koenigsegg Agera R is a hyper car that broke several speed records.

Koenigsegg Agera R was manufactured by Koenigsegg Automotive AB between March 2011 to July 2014. These sports cars are assembled in Angelholm of Sweden. The car was designed by Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder of the supercar company. This sports car as a 2-door targa top body style, in a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The Agera R is the successor to Koenigsegg CCX/CCXR.

Agera means “Act” in Swedish language. The car is named in an imperative form as “You Act!” In 2017, the Agera RS model made a record as the world’s fastest production car. The Agera was also named as the “Hypercar of the Year” by Top Gear Magazine.

Lately, in the first week of April 2018, Koenigsegg announced it has ended production of Agera. It produced 25 units of the car in three years, wreaking up five world records in high speed. This record includes winning the fastest production car with the speed of 277.9 mph on average. Jey Leno on his web channel featured the Agera hyper car in one of his latest episodes. The show took a step further focusing on the new hybrid Regera. This car has all the specifications in an Agera, while using a 670-hp electric motor. In this car, the 5.0-liter twin Turbo will be replaced by the electric motor. This new car is made more comfortable that Agera RS, mounting its chassis on rubber. Per Koenigsegg, Regera is faster than Agera RS.

The Agera R was first unveiled in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The twin-turbo charged 5.0-liter V8 engine in Agera was designed by Koenigsegg. The output of the car is 940 PS, which equals to 927 hp at 6,900 rpm. It produces a torque of 1,100 N-m at 4,000 rpm. The engine is made of carbon fiber and aluminum making it only 197 kg. Koenigsegg developed a special type of ignition system that works on 7-speed dual-clutch with paddle shifters. The earlier version of Koenigsegg Agera were fitted with 4.7-liter V8 engine with fixed-vane twin-turbochargers. This engine was replaced with the higher version.

The Agera R was unveiled in Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. The car uses an adaptive rear wing, which makes it lighter. As the car has spring load design, it has a unique ability to compensate for head/tailwind. Agera R has pylons holding the wing play, which assist in aerodynamic performance. These pylons are also used to extract hot air from the engine bay. This car broke six world records in land speed on 2 September 2011. It reached 0 to 748 kmph in 14.53 seconds. It took 21.10 seconds to reach 0 to 30 and back to 0 again. Agera R is equipped with an innovative breaking system that proffers maximum stability. In the demonstration, Robert Serwanski, test driver and technician of Koenigsegg attained 748 to 0 kmph without holding the steering wheel.

Agera R is discontinued by Koenigsegg as the company is rolling out new electric versions.

In 2013, Agera R came up with an upgraded avatar. The new version was premiered at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. This model had carbon fiber wheel and enhanced aerodynamics. The engine was also upgraded to produce better power and torque. More importantly, this version is equipped with varying fuel qualities and alcohol content. Agera R can reach 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds and 0-200 in 7.8 seconds. Curb weight of Agera R is 1,435 kg. Agera has a body made of carbon fiber. The hardtop hood is stowable under the front hood lid. The chassis has honeycomb structures.

The Agera R is noted as one of the most attractive sports cars in the world. This car was featured dominantly in Hollywood movie series Need for Speed. However, the cars were just replicas of the original.
