Ferrari Portofino 2019 is The Next Gen Upgrade To Luxury Sports Car

Ferrari Portofino is the successor to Ferrari California T.

Ferrari Portofino is a production by Ferrari N.V. The car is on production from 2018 and it was first unveiled in 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car is assembled in Maranello of Italy, the production center of Ferrari. This is a Grand tourer(S) class convertible. It has Front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The car is powered by a 3.9 L Ferrari F154BD V8, twin-turbo charged engine. Portofino has 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is a successor of Ferrari California T, the top Ferrari model. Portofino is an Italian village famous for its picturesque backdrop. Prior to Frankfurt Motor Show, two first units of this car were exhibited at Portofino village.

Ferrari Portofino received the Red Dot: Best of the Best award. Ferrari was awarded with the prestigious honor on July 2018. Portofino was described to embody “an impressive evolutionary advancement.” The judge panel also noted the car for its “exciting design language.”

Portofino replaced California T, a car that debuted a decade back. Portofino is deemed faster, smaller and lighter than its predecessor. The car was unveiled with a price tag of $210,000 as the base price. In India, it was launched in September 2018 for Rs. 3.5 Crore as ex-showroom price. It is the latest luxury car in the consumer market. Prior to its showroom launches, the car was exhibited in several roadshows especially in Europe and Asia. It debuted in Japan in February 2018 with a price of JPY 25,748,000. In Hong Kong, Portofino was launched in March 2018 for HK$3.5 million.

The previous model, California T, was a grand success. Following the response, Ferrari tried to bring a model to balance GT and typical sports car model. The design of the car is made to resemble a typical Ferrari, but it has more agility and stronger technical specifications. The Chassis is integrated with 12 different aluminum alloys. The new chassis design is with 35% increased structural rigidity as compared to California T’s chassis. While designing the car, weight was considered as a primary element. Even with a load of improvements in dashboard structure, powertrain, air-conditioning, the weight is kept comparable with other high-powered sports cars. In fact, even with upgraded air-conditioning, heating and electronic system, it is 80 kgs lighter than California T.

Portofino can accelerate from 0 to 124 kmph in 10.8 seconds.

Portofino uses a 3,855-cc engine, which is similar to GTC4Lusso T. The power output of the engine is 591 hp at 7,500 rpm. It produces 560 Nm torque at 3,000-4,250 rpm. There are several improved design elements in the car. The engine of the car exerts 10% more pressure in the combustion chamber. The car has 7-speed dual clutch transmission like the previous model, but it is combined with new software models allowing faster shifting of gears. In additionally, the exhaust system is improved for better sound. There is also an electric bypass system to monitor the engine’s sound.

The Portofino has a strong performance. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds. While, it can reach 0-124 kmph in 10.8 seconds. Portofino has a top speed of 320 kmph. The car is equipped with an improved model of suspension. It has magnetorheological dampers, which was used in California T as well as improved software. It has stiffer suspension compared to California, but the quality of drive is improved by folds. The power steering system is electrically assisted. The suspension system and steering are designed to become more responsive when sports mode is activated.

Interior of the Portofino is developed as a next level luxury car. The seats have an increased leg room of 5 centimeter. The 10.2-inch display screen feature Apple CarPlay. The air-conditioning system is deemed 25% faster than California. The system is also 50% quieter. The steering is developed as a multi-functional one like its predecessor.
