They can be small or big and can be of different propelling technologies. Depending on size, jets can be categorized into three types: Heavy Jets, Mid-size Jets, Light Jets.

These jets are large sized accommodating large cabin. They have rooms for 9 to 16 passengers, with attached audio-video entertainment system, lavatory and catering space. Heavy Jets have high ceilings and allow comfortable movement within its interior. Such jets have long distance flying capabilities ranging from 4,000 to 7000 miles non-stop. They can fly for nine ours continuously. Some heavy jets are Falcon 900 series, Challenger 605, Gulfstream II etc.

Mid-sized jets can carry almost 12 people. They too have small and large variants, which can be further classified to super mid-sized to mid-sized. The average capacity of passengers is 9 persons. The super mid-sized planes are comparable to heavy jets, as its smaller version. They have every amenity heavy jet could offer, but with little compromise in size. Mid-sized Jets can fly up to 4000 statute miles. On the other hand, general mid-sized jets can accommodate 6 to 8 people. They have a maximum seven hours of continuous flight duration. Some mid-sized jets are Gulfstream G150, Hawker 800/800XP, Lear 45. While, some super mid-sized jets are Citation X, Falcon 50, Gulfstream G150.

They are small private planes capable of carrying five to eight passengers. With a maximum flight time of two hours, they are good for short distance travel. They can fly at the speed of 500 miles per hour. A good advantage is their lows engine noise. They are not spacious. The Turbo prop planes are also under this category. They can fly from short and rough runways. They can be also like amphibious floats and snow skis. Some Light jets are Learjet 31 and 35, Citation II and V and Raytheon Premier 1. On the other hand, King Air 90, King Air 350 and Pilatus PC-12 are some Turbo prop planes.
