Smeg’s New Dolce & Gabbana Refrigerator Is Finally On Our Shores
Dolce and Gabbana doesn’t hold back on the awesomeness whether it’s their limited-edition collection of pasta or
intricately designed and executed kitchen appliances. Dolce and Gabbana has now introduced dishing out designer
refrigerators for your splendid mansions.
The 70-year-old Italian luxury appliances brand Smeg joined with design house Dolce & Gabbana to create a series of eye-popping $50,000 hand-painted special edition of the FAB 28 refrigerator inspired by the brightly colored carts of co-founder Domenico Dolce’s native Sicily. The shape takes its cues from the past, with a single door, a height of almost five feet, and a rounded 1950s profile.
Both the designers teamed up to produce 100 limited-edition FAB28 refrigerators, all of which are hand-painted by artists specially commissioned by Dolce and Gabbana themselves. The refrigerators prove to be stunning canvases for artist Salvatore Sapienza who has completely transformed the regular appliance with romantic scenes from Italy. Each refrigerator features images by Sicilian artists: lemons, the trinacria symbol, cart wheels, medieval knights and battle scenes all distinctive elements of the poetic marionette theater and the Sicilian Cart and also important aspects of the aesthetic of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
For each product themes are developed embellished with classic floral motifs. “Each piece is unique, and they all tell a story consistent with our brand identity. These might be an kitchen appliances, but there’s something that is immediately identifiable as Dolce & Gabbana, from the Sicilian barrows to the Trinacria symbol to the marionettes to the Italian lemons and fruits” as per Dolce.
These exclusive refrigerators are the result of innovation and a meticulous eye for detail are one-of-a-kind products that combine Smeg quality and technology and Dolce & Gabbana’s creativity and masterful artisan workmanship.
All their work is extremely recognisable and bears their personal touch. All the creations by the Bevilacqua brothers are dominated by bright yellow, intense blue, emerald green and deep black, representing the Sicilian sun, sea, hills and the lava on Mount Etna.
Below, take a look at how these spectacular designer refrigerators were made with love in Italy.
For those fancying some wild kitchen appliances for easier-to-stomach prices, might we suggest looking into Dolce & Gabbana’s “Sicily Is My Love” collection for Smeg, which includes small kitchen appliances (Toaster! Kettle! Coffee-maker!) with the same explosion of colors and patterns.
