Common Luxury Hotel Etiquettes: How not to end up as Embarrassments
What makes a Luxury hotel luxurious? It is the collection and creation of those amenities that does not need only money, but time. Mostly, it is not only about a particular hotelier group investing wealth in a building, it is also about the history and heritage of the place it becomes after those ageing lines of its lifetime. Apart from fine dining, the feeling of being honored and the array of services that make you feel royal, the peace and tranquility of mind are things that make a Luxury hotel worth those hefty payments.
With such rare amenities, which makes visiting a luxury hotel an honor, the experience calls for some responsibilities as guests as well. These responsibilities come up as etiquettes, which are expected from every guest at any hotel. There are handful of aspects that comprises the list of general etiquettes starting from attires, public conduct to behavior at the dining table.
Dress you wear speaks louder than you in these places
Although, dress-code at luxury hotels is a bygone subject, wearing appropriate attires to match with the occasion and place is a matter of common sense. For instance, wearing a pair beach bermuda shorts and a colorful Hawaiian shirt while checking into a hotel full of international delegates gathered to discuss a global issue, would be highly odd, and of course, inappropriate. The choice of dress in a luxury hotel depends on the location, but wearing jeans and a collared shirt is always preferable. Be careful not to arrive on rags, wearing faded jeans and an old t-shirt, especially while checking in.

While heading in evening out to the dining hall, bar or the restaurant, wearing a suit jacket is elegance. However, you should also check what others are wearing. The thumb rule is to match with the crowd and not to appear as if you know nothing about the culture and formalities of the place.
Never forget Hotel is a public place, not private property
Always keep in mind that hotel is a public space and no guest are allowed to do whatever they like. Playing loud music, making noise, talking loudly, are despised in such places. These can disrupt the positive vibrancy and make the noise and its maker, a center of odd attraction. This would make the person appears as someone who have never visited a luxury hotel before and it is nothing, but mediocrity.

No one wants to appear cheap in an expensive hotel, but narcissistic ignorance becomes something to be blamed most of the times. It is better not to be the center of negative attention, by being smiling, always being gracious and respecting the community and privacy of other guests in the hotel. Especially, maintaining behavior in spaces like the pool, restaurant, open air balcony and corridors is a necessity.
Don’t feel shy to admit you know nothing on the menu
In expensive hotels, the waiters are masters of their own trade. They know the menu better than you and deserve the respect for that. Apart from wearing an appropriate dress, be confident but humble while interacting with waiters. Ask them about the menu and the course of food, wine and other delicacies available. It is not possible to understand every word in that list. Maintain the tone and sound of your voice. It is advisable to avoid clicking and waving hands to call any waiter.
Rooms in luxury hotels are stuffed with expensive items, souvenirs and appliances. Those are not for only you, those are for every guest who stays in the room. So never pack them in your bag while leaving. This would be a clear case of theft and hence, a lot of embarrassment. Do not grab towels, robes, or small electronic appliances like shaving machine or the hair dryer. However, packing the toothpaste or the special shampoo sachet with the logo and name of the hotel is acceptable. These are only for flaunting your stay at the hotel.
